Memorial Day Weekend Doubleheader Tradition Continues at Riverhead May 23 & 24

Since 1986 with the addition of Enduro racing Riverhead Raceway owners and promoters Barbara & Jim Cromarty have offered Long Island race fans two action packed Memorial Day weekend shows and that tradition will continue for the 30th consecutive season over the holiday weekend May 23rd & May 24th.  Two new events will debut over the weekend as Saturday night the new Bone Stock Demolition Derby will unfold while the next afternoon the new Gut & Go Enduro will be presented.

After the NASCAR stock cars compete Saturday evening May 23rd the Bone Stock Demolition Derby for 8-Cylinder machines will take place. Over the winter months track officials headed-up by Operations Manager John Ellwood simplified the Demolition Derby rules making it easier for those who want to compete in Demolition Derby events. While the rules have been simplified and the preparation time needed to compete minimized one thing that will not change will be the purse as the winner of the Bone Stock Demolition Derby will still earn a minimum of $450.

Headlining the NASCAR Whelen All American Series program will be the Late Model class who will go to post in a 30-lap main event with the field set via time trial qualifying. The Late Model troops will be returning after a week off for the 30-lap tilt with current point leader Jeremy McDermott looking to increase on that lead Saturday evening. Hoping to cut into his lead will be Chris LaSpisa, Shawn Patrick, Scott Kulesa, Chris McGuire, Kyle Harvell, defending champion Mike Bologna, Chris Lescenski, Kevin Metzger and all-time leading LM winner Roger Oxee.

Also in action will be the NASCAR Modifieds who will run a 35-lap main event with time trial qualifying and completing the action packed program will be the Chargers, Super Pro Trucks and Legend Race Cars who will all run in 20-lap events. Feature event racing will start at 6:00 pm with Late Model and NASCAR Modified qualifying preceding the main events.

Sunday afternoon round 2 of the 2015 Enduro race season will be presented starting at 12:30 pm. The all new Gut & Go Enduro for 4/6-Cylinder cars will debut and much like the Bone Stock Demolition Derby the concept is focused on making the preparation of the race cars simplified and less costly for teams. As is the case with all Enduro events at Riverhead Raceway the purses are arrived at on a prorated basis. The more cars, the more prize money.

The Grand Enduro class will find Greg Zaleski of Jamesport seeking to repeat his win from opening day May 3rd, as will Truck Enduro victor Don Nelson Jr. of Rocky Point.  Veteran Anthony Pizzo of Lake Ronkonkoma is hoping to sweep both ends of the 8-Cylinder races as he did on opening day while Mike Mujsce Jr. of Hampton Bays nearly lapped the 4/6-Cyinder Enduro field twice. Mujsce is hopeful of at least backing up his opening day win.
