Mother Nature Delays Grand Opening to May 14

Saturday’s long awaited and anticipated Riverhead Raceway Grand Opening Night will have to wait another week as this past Saturday afternoon a persistent low pressure system sat over Eastern Long Island forcing new owners and promoters Eddie & Connie Partridge and Tom Gatz to postpone the event. The heavy mist and drizzle would last well into the evening hours after the postponement. The entire Grand Opening Night program complete with a Fireworks spectacular will be presented this Saturday May 14th at 6:30 pm.

Making the wash out tougher to take for all involved was the sight of race car haulers and trailers lined-up three and four wide stretching to the far reaches of the south parking lot as competitors turned out in droves to support Grand Opening Night. Saturday May 14th will find the NASCAR Modified competing in a 40-lap feature event while the Late Models will race 25 laps. The Figure Eights will go to battle in a 15-lap main event while the Riverhead Modified Crates, Blunderbusts, Super Pro trucks and INEX Legend Race Cars will all race 20-lap events.

Once racing is completed the night sky will light up with a huge Fireworks spectacular for all to enjoy. Unfortunately due to the Grand Opening Night being moved to May 14th by rain the Gut & Go Enduro, Bone Stock Demo, Pack The Track Night and Spring Sports Night events and promotions have been canceled for Saturday.

With the rained out May Meltdown Enduro being made up this Sunday May 15th at 12:30 pm this weekend will become a racing doubleheader weekend at Riverhead Raceway. The Enduro race card will include the Grand, Truck, 8-Cylinder, 4/6-Cylinder Car, Gut & Go and Mini 8 classes. The division with the most cars on hand will also have the option to enter and run in a second race for their class and if the total car count hits 250 the division with the most entries will run for a cool $1,000 to win.

Saturday May 14th the pits will again open at 12 noon with practice starting at 1:30 pm. Spectator gates open at 4:00 pm, heat races as well live music in our Turn 3 Beer Garden start at 4:30 pm with feature racing set for 6:30 pm. On Sunday the pit gates will open at 10:00 am for the May Meltdown, spectator gates at 12:00 noon and racing starts at 12:30 pm.
