Forecast Forces Riverhead to Cancel May 21st Show

With local weather forecasters calling for very ominous weather conditions that include heavy rain moving in for Saturday afternoon, Riverhead Raceway owners Eddie & Connie Partridge and Tom Gatz called off the program Friday afternoon. The early call was made in an effort to allow the loyal Riverhead Raceway teams and fans alike to make alternative plans.

The School Bus Figure Eight race set to highlight the May 21st program will now shift to Saturday night June 4th, the night of the annual Baldwin, Evans & Jarzombek 77 Memorial race for the NASCAR Modifieds. Track GM John Ellwood also indicated the Bone Stock Demolition Derby that was originally slated for Saturday night May 14th has been reschedules for Saturday night June 11th.

The traditional Memorial Day weekend doubleheader is up next at Riverhead Raceway with racing set for both Saturday evening May 28th as well Sunday afternoon May 29th. Saturday will feature the return of the NEMA Midgets for the first time since 1977 at Riverhead Raceway as they race in the Allan Cantor Memorial 50 by IGA Food Markets. Also highlighting the night will be the Cromarty Wall of Fame inductions with John T. Ambrose Sr., Chris Young and Steve Tooker all taking their place on the wall. Saturday night racing will start at 6:30 pm. The Vintage Midget Racing Club, Vintage Race Cars, NASCAR Modifieds, Riverhead Modified Crates and Legend Race Cars will all be part of a busy night at the track next Saturday.

Sunday afternoon the Enduro series will go toe to toe in the Spring Showdown starting at 12:30 pm. Six great Enduro racers are set headed up by the Grands, Trucks, 8-Cylinders, 4/6-Cylinder Cars, Gut & Go and Mini 8 classes. The Blunderbust division will run their first Sunday show in many years as well on May 29th as they’ll compete in a 30-lap time trial show.
