Riverhead Announces 3 Race Sizzling Summer Series Starting July 31st

Riverhead Raceway General Manager John Ellwood announced Monday afternoon the formation of a three race Enduro series dubbed the Sizzling Summer Series that will be staged at the quarter mile oval with the first race set for next Saturday evening July 30th. The three races will carry their own point system to crown a Sizzling Summer Series champion and be open to Grand and 8-Cylinder Enduro machines as well out of state Factory Stock or Strictly Stock type cars.

“In essence the Sizzling Summer Series will allow area 8-Cylinder Enduro teams as well as Factory or Strictly Stock teams to compete in this mini-series” Ellwood disclosed. He added, “our Grand Enduro rules will be in play for the series but we’ll allow 8-Cylinder teams as well the Factory and Strictly stock teams to join in” One key rule that will be in effect is teams must run the same Hoosier Tire that is mandated in the track’s Grand Enduro division. If teams that want to run the series but do not to incur the cost of a new set of Hoosier Tires for the three races they can buy “take off” tires from either Grand Enduro or Blunderbust teams at the track.

After the July 31st opener the Sizzling Summer Series will conclude with races on August 13th and again the following week August 20th. The top drivers in the final series point standings will be honored at the Riverhead Raceway awards dinner Saturday January 7th, 2017 at Giorgio’s of Baiting Hollow. Teams should note that regular track points for either the Grands or 8-Cylinders will not be paid out during the Sizzling Summer Series as well no 6 or 4-Cylinder Car will be permitted.
