ENDURO
TIP OF THE MONTH
by Doug Watson
Welcome, this month will be a Q&A sent in by you the readers.
But first I have to say that at 2nd warm-ups I had the
opportunity to watch the Enduros practice. There was a good turn out with
about a dozen 8 cylinder’s and 2 4 cylinder’s.
My hats off to all these Enduro drivers. They ran fast and
sometimes 3 wide and kept it pretty clean. I especially enjoyed
watching one of the 4 cylinder’s pass a group of Monte’s and start to
pull away! Well enough of me rattling, let’s get to the first
question.
What are the best cars to use in the 4 cylinder and 8-cylinder
Enduros and can u use a v-6?
--Jon
Well, most of my experience is with 8’s but I’ll try.
In 4 cylinder’s it seems the small hatchback type are the fastest
to get around, but the larger types like Cavaliers have a longer life and
can take a hit better. For the
8’s, 1973-76 Monte Carlo’s are king. 70’s Chevelles and 80’s
Impalas also are very good. 6 cylinder’s are legal and can be used
in the 8-cylinder division.
Hey, Can you put pipes on the hood with flames coming out of them
like they do in the Demo’s?
--Matt
No, All Enduro cars must have mufflers but I like your
enthusiasm.
I’m helping a friend build his Enduro car. Should we have the
tire balanced after mounting or is it unnecessary? Thanks in advance!
--Eric
I would have them done. Also it’s a good way to see if your
rims are bent. If your friend has a good run late in the race, you
want the best car possible under him, And your welcome!
Which do you prefer, Bias or radial tires?
--Andy
I prefer Bias and so do most of the front runners in the
division. But some people like the radials. Stagger is
important.
