FORTY-ONE ENTRIES RECEIVED FOR RIVERHEAD MILLER LITE
“200”
Riverhead Raceway officials confirmed
today Friday June 1st that they have received 41 entries for this Saturday
night’s Miller Lite “200” NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series event.
Jerry Marquis of Broad Brook, Ct. is not only the defending champion of the
NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series, but is also the defending race winner in
the Miller Lite 200.
After much speculation of what car he’ll drive Marquis recently sent in an
entry blank listing Sarah Boehler as the car owner in a machine normally
driven by Michael Boehler, a car he’s driven in prior races during his 2001
title defense. Marquis had began the 2001 season by winning the first race of
2001 with car owner Mario Fiore for whom he drove in 2000, however after that
race at South Boston Speedway in Virginia the team suddenly split.
Among his weekly foes from the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series who will be
out to win the $56,266 Miller Lite 200 will be Reggie Ruggiero of Rocky Hill,
Ct., Ted Christopher of Plainville, Ct., John Blewett III of Howell, N.J.,
Mike Stefanik of Coventry, R.I. and Rick Fuller of Auburn, Ma. Also entered
for the 50-mile contest are Tommy Cravenho of Raynham, Ma., Carl and Charlie
Pasteryak of Lisbon, Ct., Jamie Tomaino of Howell, N.J. and Ed Flemke Jr. of
Southington, Ct.
The “Long Island Gang” who chase the 2001 FMS circuit will look forward to
racing right in their own back yard with Mike Ewanitsko of North Babylon, Tom
Baldwin of Bellport, Tony Ferrante Jr. of Franklin Square, Fred Vordermeier of
West Hempstead, Joey Caraccia of Selden and Howie Brode of Bay Shore all
looking forward to some home cooking.
The tough contingent of Riverhead Raceway regulars are set to try and score
their first FMS victory since 1995 at their own facility with John Fortin of
Holtsville, Chris Young of Riverhead, Chuck Steuer of Bohemia, Ed Densieski of
Riverhead, Bill Park of Manorville, Dan Jivanelli of Hampton Bays, Joe
Hartmann of Riverhead Mike Curtis of Riverhead and Gregg Shivers of Rocky
Point all set to do battle against the touring stars.
Pit gates will open at 11:00 am, with practice for the Riverhead Raceway
Chargers and Blunderbusts to commence at 2:00 pm. The NASCAR Featherlite
Modifieds will then practice from 3:30 pm until 4:30, with the qualifying
heats for the Riverhead classes to start right after the FMS warm-ups
conclude. Time trials for the Miller Lite 200 will begin at 5:45 pm, while the
Blunderbust and Charger features will be presented starting at 6:30 pm.
