Wayne Anderson Tabs Timmy Solomito As Driver

Wayne Anderson, a former five-time Riverhead Raceway NASCAR Modified champion announced Tuesday that 21-year old Timmy Solomito of Islip would drive his famed Eastport Feeds NASCAR Modified at the ultra-competitive quarter mile oval in 2013. The Anderson/Solomito pairing will start their quest not only for the NASCAR Modified championship at Riverhead but also the New York State title in the Whelen All-American Series on Saturday evening May 4th in Twin 30 main events. Solomito is the defending opening night winner.

In 2012 Anderson, the 1994 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion had Ted Christopher at the helm of his #15 racecar with the tandem scoring one feature event win and a 4th place tally in the 2012 championship standings. “Teddy loved running Riverhead but the travel just got to be too much” Anderson admitted. Christopher would either fly or drive to Riverhead from his Plainville, Ct. home every weekend after racing on some occasions the two previous nights.

“We looked at a few drivers” Anderson revealed “in the end we liked Timmy as our driver, he qualifies well and races hard and clean. We hope to cultivate our relationship with Timmy not just this season but for the future as well”. Anderson also noted that long time sponsor Eastport Feeds played a major role in this decision “We can’t thank Doug Corwin and his company enough for their support”. The team is currently in talks with East-West Marine who came on board midway through 2012 to return for 2013. Anderson announced that Blue Moon Deli of Patchogue would return this season to the team along with his own Axel Anderson Truck Repair and Long Island Fuel Oil Accessories.

Kenny Lechner will once again serve as the crew chief for the Anderson/Solomito combination with a Performance Technology engine under the hood.

Dubbed “The Natural” during his rookie season, Timmy Solomito was thrilled when he got the phone call from the Anderson team, “it was awesome to get the call from Wayne and the team letting me know I’d be their driver” Solomito, a young historian of the sport is not lost on what the Anderson team has accomplished over the years and what they hope to accomplish in 2013. “I’m very excited about this season, I hope we can get to victory lane often and make a run for the Riverhead and New York State championship in the process”.

“The atmosphere is really something” Solomito furthered, “it’s much more than a race team, it really is one big family and I’m proud to be a part of it”.

The 2013 chase for the NASCAR Modified title at Riverhead Raceway will start on Saturday evening May 4th with Twin 30 feature events. The Whelen All-American Series championship chases will start as well that night for the Late Models, Figure Eights, Chargers, Blunderbusts, Super Pro Trucks and Legend race cars.
