“Tiger” Tom Baldwin Hard Charger Award to Continue

Ed & Connie Partridge of Hoosier Tire of Calverton who will now also serve as the Sunoco Race Fuel dealer at Riverhead Raceway announced today that they will continue the weekly “Tiger” Tom Baldwin Hard Charger Award for the NASCAR Modifieds in 2013 starting with the opening night Twin 30’s on Saturday May 4th. The award rewards the driver who improves the most positions from their original starting spot to their finish weekly at the demanding quarter mile oval.

“All of us at Riverhead Raceway want to thank Ed & Connie Partridge for continuing this award” Bob Finan of Riverhead Raceway noted., “Sunoco Race Fuel started this award right after Tom’s untimely passing and it’s a great way to honor one of the most passionate and colorful NASCAR Modified drivers of our time” During the off season it was disclosed that the Partridge’s would take over the Sunoco Race Fuel distribution at Riverhead Raceway and work in conjunction with Insinger Performance. One of the first orders of business for Ed & Connie Partridge was to disclose their desire to continue the Hard Charger Award in Tom Baldwin’s name.

To be eligible for the “Tiger” Tom Baldwin Hard Charger Award teams must be using Sunoco Race Fuel purchased through Hoosier Tire of Calverton and display both a Sunoco Race Fuels and Insinger Performance decal. Brad Van Houten of Wading River won the final “Tiger” Tom Baldwin Hard Charger Award of 2012 in the season’s final race.

It will be mandatory for all race teams that compete at Riverhead Raceway in 2013 to use Sunoco Race Fuel; those teams in the some of the divisions that blend race fuel with pump gas must do so with Sunoco Race Fuel and Sunoco pump gas. Walter Bonczyk and his staff of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Inspectors will be checking all race winners and teams at random during 2013. Bonczyk, a veteran official warned teams buying pump gas “buyer beware” and to try and use a Sunoco corporate store.

Opening weekend 2013 is fast approaching at Barbara & Jim Cromarty’s Riverhead Raceway with the NASCAR Modifieds headlining the Whelen All-American Series opener Saturday evening May 4th. Completing the seven division, eight feature event program are the Late Models, Figure Eights, Chargers, Blunderbusts, Super Pro Trucks and Legend Race Cars. Features will start at 5:30 pm and be preceded by time trials for the NASCAR Modifieds who run in a Twin 30 feature format and the Legend Race Cars.

Sunday afternoon May 5th will see the Enduro Race Series go green at 12:30 featuring the Grand Enduro class as well the 4/6-Cylinder Truck Enduro. Joining them are the 8-Cylinder and 4/6-Car Enduro racers with the 8-Cylinder class running in two feature events during the day.

A great part of opening night excitement is the fact that Ed and Connie Partridge announced that they will once again be the sponsoring the “Tiger” Tom Baldwin Hard Charger award for the NASCAR Modifieds. Tom Baldwin was one of Modified racing’s most popular drivers and his untimely death several years ago is something race fans have never forgotten. To be eligible for the award drivers must be racing with Sunoco Race Fuel.
