Fireworks, Cromarty Cup 50 and 4 Cylinder Demo Derby Set for July 6 at Riverhead

The Independence Day celebration will continue through the weekend at Riverhead Raceway Saturday July 6th as Barbara & Jim Cromarty will host a party of their own featuring a huge Fireworks display, 4-Cylinder Demolition Derby and the Cromarty Cup 50 for the NASCAR Modifieds starting at 6:00 pm. Completing the program will be the “World Famous” Figure Eights, Chargers, Blunderbusts and Legend Race Cars.

Long Island’s own Bay Fireworks will again provide another fantastic colorful display of fireworks that will be accompanied by music for fans young and old alike to enjoy. Each and every year Bay Fireworks makes the annual display bigger, brighter, more colorful and exciting than the year before and the July 6th display will be no exception. As for the bone jarring, car destroying 4-Cylinder Demolition Derby it promises to be another hard-hitting affair. Back on June 15th “Mad” Mike Smith of Kings Park scored the 8-Cylinder Demolition Derby win in what can only be described as a slugfest with plenty of high speed hits and even a rollover by “Pistol” Pete Mikos of Ronkonkoma. Smith recently told track announcer Bob Finan, “If you thought June 8th was something, just wait until July 6th”. Smith and his cohorts are building no less than 4 cars for the July 6th 4-Cylinder event.

The Cromarty Cup 50 NASCAR Modified event is one of several signature races on the annual Riverhead Raceway schedule and often it’s this race that sorts out the main players in the seasonal championship chase. Going into the race this year Howie Brode of East Islip and Tom Rogers Jr. of Patchogue ranked one-two in the standings with Brode holding a slim 4-point advantage 170 to 166. Other drivers still in the mix not just for the Riverhead Raceway title but also the New York State Whelen All-American Series championship are defending champion Shawn Solomito of Islip, Ryan Preece of Berlin, Ct., Ed Brunnhoelzl III of Levittown, David Roys of Coram, Timmy Solomito of Islip, John Beatty Jr. of Merrick, Kevin Orlando of Calverton and Dave Sapienza of Riverhead.

Add to the excitement the criss-crossing thrills of the Figure Eights, great side by side Charger, Blunderbust and Legend Race Car racing and July 6th indeed is a don’t miss night at Riverhead Raceway. After the Legend Race Cars run their heat races and the NASCAR Modifieds qualify through time trials the feature event racing will start at 6:00 pm.
