Riverhead Champions Luncheon Set for Sunday, Feb. 9th

The 2013 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series champions at Barbara & Jim Cromarty’s Riverhead Raceway will be honored for their titles Sunday afternoon February 9th at Riverhead’s newest restaurant Joe’s Garage & Grill which is located on the Peconic River waterfront in downtown Riverhead. The luncheon will be hosted by Bob Finan and start at 12 noon with a modest $10 cover charge for a buffet lunch and the awards ceremony.

Howie Brode of East Islip will be feted for his second career NASCAR Modified championship in his Peter Clark Motorsports owned machine as Howie will lead the 2013 Riverhead Raceway “parade of champions”. Aside from some great hardware from Riverhead Raceway and NASCAR, Brode will also be presented with the Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Long Island drivers cup to keep for a year. Scott Maliszewski of Deer Park and Jason Savoy of Lake Panamoka also earned their second career championships like Brode did with Scott topping the Blunderbust title fight in a close battle while Savoy ran away with the Demolition Derby crown.

In an amazing stat five first time track champions will make their debut in the “parade of champions” headed-up by 2013 Late Model champion Jeremy McDermott of Riverhead who in 2012 was the track’s Charger champion. Among the other first time champions honored on February 9th will be Figure Eight champion Ken Hyde Jr. of Medford, Charger champion Eric Zeh of Selden, Super Pro Truck kingpin Frank Dumicich Jr. of E. Quogue and Legend Race Car titlist Brendon Bock of Franklin Square. Aside from the championship hardware the top five in all the stock car divisions will also take home trophies from Barbara & Jim Cromarty, while the top three in the NASCAR Modifieds, Late Models, Figure Eights and Chargers will receive their plaques from NASCAR.

Rookie of the Year awards will be presented to the top newcomers in the NASCAR Modifieds, Late Models, Figure Eights and Chargers, while Best Appearing plaques will be presented to all seven divisions courtesy of Wild Child Design Graphics.

Joe’s Garage & Grill was an active Riverhead Raceway marketing partner with the NASCAR Modifieds in 2013 and they are looking forward to hosting the Champion’s Luncheon in their car themed restaurant. “We are really looking forward to having our affair at Joe’s Garage & Grill” Bob Finan noted, “I can’t thank enough both Ray and his partners at Joe’s Garage and our own John Ellwood for working out all the details”.
