8-Cylinder Demo Derby & 30-Lap Charger Event Featured June 14th

Saturday night June 14th will have an old school kind of feel at Barbara & Jim Cromarty’s Riverhead Raceway as they will present six divisions of NASCAR Whelen American Series racing with the night topped off by a good old fashioned 8-Cylinder Demolition Derby. The Charger class will highlight the NASCAR action as they will go to post in a 30-lap main event with time trial qualifying, their first such race of 2014.

Defending Charger champion Eric Zeh of Selden will lead the troops into battle and if the young driver is to score another win in 2014 he’ll likely have to go through three drivers who also have visited victory lane this young season. Veterans Ray Minieri of Bay Shore, former four time track champion Chris Turbush of Wading River and young lion CJ Lehmann of Mastic Beach will all be seeking a return trip to the winners circle. Several teams as of press time are seeking their first win of the young season and they include Cory Midgett of East Hampton, John Baker of Brookhaven, rookies Greg Immerman of Southampton, Scott Pedersen of Shirley and Owen Grennan of Glen Cove as well Darren Miller of Franklin Square, Dan Lynch of Riverhead and Jayson White of Hicksville.

The NASCAR Modifieds will contest their third 35-lap race of the 2014 season with Howie Brode of East Islip and Ryan Preece of Berlin, Ct having won the first two regular distance races of the year. Preece will not be there but it is expected that 2004 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Todd Szegedy of Ridgefield, Ct. will be on hand in the Bill & Barbara Park Chevy gearing up for the Hoosier Tire 200 WMT race on June 28th. Joining Howie and Todd will be Timmy Solomito of Islip, Dave Sapienza of Riverhead, Tom Rogers Jr. of Riverhead, Jason Agugliaro of Islip, Vinny Biondolillo of Farmingville, Kyle Ellwood of Riverhead, Eddie Brunnhoelzl III of Levittown and Ken Darch & Jeffrey Goodale both also from Riverhead.

Late Models, Figure Eights, Blunderbusts and Super Pro Trucks will all also be in action with feature event racing starting at 6:00 pm. Time trials for the Chargers are expected to start at 5:00 pm with the NASCAR Modifieds qualifying at 5:30 pm, the Legend Race Cars have their first night off of 2014.

Once all the stock car racing is in the books it will be time to wreck some cars in a bone jarring, car destroying 8-Cylinder Demolition Derby with the likes of Jason Savoy of Lake Panamoka on hand in his Misery Machine.  Savoy is the defending champion of the class with the likes of “The Maniac” Matt Mulqueen of Levittown, Richard & Andrew Fowler of Wantagh, a father & son team plus others expected to compete.
