10 to Go with Artie Pedersen III

This week’s 10 to Go is with driver of the No. 51 Legend, Artie Pedersen III.

How did you get started racing?

Artie Pedersen III: I started when I was 7 years old in LIKA [Long Island Karting Association] in Nassau [County] running the 2-stroke open wheels, ran them for 5 years, kept moving up in divisions, up in classes, won two championships and moved on to Legends after that.

Which car that you’ve raced so far have you enjoyed the most?

Pedersen: I love the Legends car they’re awesome but, I also ran the Late Model and I enjoyed doing that, too.

What tracks have you raced at?

Pedersen: I’ve raced at Bethel [New York], Chemung [New York], Riverhead and Waterford, and we [also] ran at Wall [Stadium].

Which one of those is your favorite?

Pedersen: Wall is probably my favorite track its fun, its high banked, high speed, it’s just fun.

Is there any track that you haven’t raced at but want to?

Pedersen: I want to race at Charlotte on the flat track [in the infield]. We raced all over the place in the northeast but, we haven’t tried Charlotte yet, that’s a ride for us but I do want to try it.

What do you like about racing at Riverhead Raceway?

Pedersen: I love the competition, ever since I started it has made me a better driver running with these guys and we all get along and it makes great racing.

What has been your favorite moment in your racing career?

Pedersen: My favorite moment was my first win last year, it took all year to get, we we’re in the top 5 all year and we finally got it with two races to go.

What has been your worst moment in your career?

Pedersen: My worst moment has to be opening night this year, we got caught up in that first lap incident, we worked so hard on the cars and to have that happen just drained me.

A couple weeks ago you had a hard crash in turn 3, was that the hardest hit you’ve taken so far?

Pedersen: Yeah that’s definitely the hardest [hit] I’ve taken but thank god for the Hans device and everything because I didn’t get hurt majorly.

Where do you want to see your career in the future?

Pedersen: We’re really trying hard on a modified deal right now and it looks like it might come through so we’re going to start running that and I love the Legends and I still want to race the big races with the Legend car.
