Riverhead to Host INEX Legends National Qualifier on Sunoco Race Fuels Night

When the August 9th Sunoco Race Fuels night of racing is complete there could very well be three INEX Legend Race Car teams humming the “Viva Las Vegas” tune as they leave Riverhead Raceway as the track will play host to a 30-lap INEX National Qualifier that headlines the race card. A full slate of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series stock car racing along with an 8-Cylinder Demolition Derby will also be presented starting at 6:00 pm.

Sunoco Race Fuels is the Official Fuel of NASCAR and distributed at Riverhead Raceway by Hoosier Tire of Calverton via Insigna Performance of New Jersey. All feature event winner will take home a Sunoco Race Fuels trophy. The NASCAR Modifieds will compete in their second Twin 50’s feature event of 2014 as the title chases enters its final month. Howie Brode of East Islip enjoyed a comfortable NASCAR Modified points lead into late July which he hopes to carry to the Twin 50’s Joining the NASCAR Modifieds are the Figure Eights, Chargers, Blunderbusts, Super Pro Trucks and Legend Race Cars. Once the racing has been completed another exciting bone jarring, car destroying Demolition Derby will be presented.

Without question the most anticipated race of the night will belong to the INEX Legend Race Cars with their 30-lap National Qualifier on tap. Last year the overall winner of the race was “The Natural” Timmy Solomito of Islip but with Timmy chasing the Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors on the NASCAR WMT he will not defend his 2013 overall race win. Unlike other INEX tracks Riverhead Raceway runs all three classes of Legends in one race as the Masters race with the Semi-Pros and Young Lions. While there will be one overall winner in victory lane for the National Qualifier three drivers will actually be very happy at the end of the 30-lap race.

The leading driver in each class, Masters, Semi-Pro and Young Lion will secure a starting spot at the INEX Legend Race Car Nationals on October 17th & 18th at the famed Las Vegas Speedway. If anyone of the three choose to go and they don’t make the cut in the various qualifying races in October they then can fall back on their National Qualifier wins at Riverhead Raceway to make the features which carry a total purse of $20,000 in Vegas.

Among the Legend Race Car teams gearing up for the Sunoco Race Fuels INEX National Qualifier are defending track champion Brendon Bock of Franklin Square, Kyle Soper of Manorville, Brad Van Houten of Wading River, Richie Davidowitz of East Moriches, Vinny Delaney of Holtsville, Artie Pedersen III of Center Moriches, Dylan Slepian of Dix Hills, Bryan Kelly of Riverhead, Allan Pedersen of Center Moriches and Chris Rogers of Patchogue. Some teams have had a rough go early in 2014 at Riverhead and a win in this race would certainly turn their season around among them are, Greg Harris of Riverhead, John Beatty Jr. of Merrick Eric Hersey of Commack, Vinny Colletti of Middle Island, Ray Fitzgerald of Manorville, Mike Van Houten of Jamesport, Michael Rutkoski of Mattituck and Anthony Marsh of Riverhead.

Variety will certainly be the spice of life on Saturday August 9th at Riverhead Raceway with feature racing to start at 6:00 pm with qualifying preceding the main events.
