Barbara & Jim Cromarty Announce Dates for Riverhead Opening Weekend in 2015

For the 31st consecutive season Barbara & Jim Cromarty will again present exciting NASCAR Whelen All American Series stock car racing events at Riverhead Raceway and just this past week they announced that the Opening Weekend will take place on Saturday evening May 2nd and Sunday afternoon May 3rd. A seven divisions NASCAR stock car program will kick things off Saturday evening while the popular Enduro race series takes the green Sunday afternoon.

Despite a tough 2014 year off the track for Barbara & Jim and the continuing talk of the track being sold the Cromarty’s, as they always have, are forging forward into another season of NASCAR, Enduro and Family Entertainment events in 2015. During the winter months leading up to the 2014 campaign Jim Cromarty had emergency hip replacement surgery in Miami, Florida and then right in the middle of the race season Barbara suffered a serious pelvis injury. However not a beat, or in this matter, a lap was missed showing the Cromarty’s dedication to their Riverhead Raceway and their extended racing family. As to the chatter about a pending sale Barbara & Jim as they have in the past admit the track is for sale but also state they will only sell it as a race track and as of right now no sale is pending.

With that in mind fast forward to the 2015 season which will be the 39th overall as race promoters for Barbara & Jim and they are very much “all in” for another exciting season. While several final touches remain on the entire 2015 schedule the NASCAR Whelen All American Series will open Saturday May 2nd at 5:30 pm with a full slate of racing. The NASCAR Modifieds, Late Models, Figure Eights, Chargers, Blunderbusts, Super Pro Trucks and Legend Race Cars will all be in action for the first half of Opening Weekend 2015. Sunday May 2nd at 12:30 pm will find the Grand Enduros, Truck Enduros, 8-Cylinder and 4/6-Cylinder Car Enduros kicking off their 2015 season.

The popular NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will again have two dates at Riverhead Raceway in 2015, the first on Saturday June 27th with the second 200-lapper set for Saturday August 29th. The annual Monster Truck invasion will again take place over Labor Day weekend September 5th & 6th. The monster trucks will go back to their original format of free style competition with 6 trucks competing. This will be a change from the Figure 8 format that was done for the past two years. As of press time Barbara Cromarty was still waiting on responses from some family entertainment acts before she can put the final touches on the schedule.

Prior to the May 2nd and May 3rd opening weekend Riverhead Raceway will again host two traditional pre-season practice sessions on Saturday April 18th & April 25th featuring free grandstand admission.
