Late Models Step Up to Riverhead Spotlight With $1,000 to Win 50-lap July 25th Event

The full body fury of the Riverhead Raceway Late Model division will take center stage Saturday evening July 25th at the historic quarter mile oval with a 50-lap feature event paying $1,000 to win thanks in part to the “L.I. Mod Maniac” bonus money from Jim Schaefer. With the NASCAR Modifieds scheduled for the night off the Late Models will headline the six feature event program starting at 6:00 pm.

To date the 2015 season has been a renaissance season in the Late Model ranks as car counts are on the rise with 16 on hand for the most recent race on July 11th. The combination of the purse money as well as the “L.I. Mod Maniac” bonus money adding up to $1,000 and it is possible for a full field of 20 to be on hand for the 50-lap race that will utilize time trial qualifying. The extra money should also ramp up the competition on the track.

Defending champion Mike Bologna of Melville won the most recent Late Model race for his first win of the season and will come to the 50-lap tilt chasing former champion Jeremy McDermott of Riverhead for the 2015 title. Both drivers are threats to take the win and the extra loot that goes with it. Chris LaSpisa of Shirley funds his own Late Model without the aid of sponsorship and the $1,000 payday would go a long way for the veteran driver as it would for Kevin Metzger of Massapequa and Shawn Patrick of Brightwaters. Kyle Harvell of Manhattan and Chris Lescenski of Riverhead would certainly love to win their first career race in this event.

Two drivers who have a tough season in the racing luck department would love to turn things around on July 25th as Scott Kulesa of Georgetown, Ma. and Roger Oxee of Peconic would love a much needed victory. Veteran drivers Jack Orlando of Calverton and Peter “Buzzy” Eriksen of Baldwin know how to race the longer races with Orlando already having a win on the books for this year. Eriksen however just ran his first race of the year sitting out with a hand injury until July 11th. Jarrod Hayes of Calverton planned on a part time slate for this season and has won twice already and the extra money is certain to bring “J-Rod” out.

Joining the Late Models for the July 25th program are the Figure Eights, Chargers, Blunderbusts, Legend Race Cars and an 8-Cylinder Enduro. The Legends will use heat races to set their field.
