Mike Ewanitsko, Robin Vollmoeller & Carl Zeh Named to Riverhead Wall of Fame

Barbara & Jim Cromarty recently announced the Class of 2015 that will be enshrined on the Wall of Fame at Riverhead Raceway Saturday August 15th, Old Timers Day. Mike Ewanitsko, Robin Vollmoeller and the late Carl Zeh will all take their rightful place on the Wall of Fame that sits on the third turn midway for fans to see as they enter the track.

“Mighty” Mike Ewanitsko was known as a hard charging, seat of the pants NASCAR Modified driver who visited victory lane some 30 times during his Riverhead Raceway driving career from 1986 until 2000. He remains to this day as the all time leading winner of NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour races at the historic quarter mile oval with the first of his 11 WMT victories unfolding on July 8th, 1987. Mike would go onto to win a total of 28 times on the WMT.

Local product Robin Vollmoeller who grew up in and still calls Riverhead home spread his 47 career wins over numerous divisions over a driving career that spanned five decades. Robin is third on the all time Charger win list with 30 some of those victories taking place when the class was known as the Novice and Bomber divisions. Vollmoeller also scored 16 wins in the class now known as the Late Models which previously ran under the Grand American & Street Stock banner. He also tallied a NASCAR Modified win and most recently won several Truck Enduro features before selling his truck.

Popular NASCAR Modified car owner Carl Zeh will also take his place on the Wall of Fame August 15th. Carl was a prominent figure in the Riverhead pit area for many years finding success with first Jim Malone Sr. and later Don Howe. Both combinations resulted in numerous race wins and track championships at the Route 58 oval, with the Zeh/Howe combination also enjoying success at Islip Speedway as well. Carl sadly passed away just before the 2014 season but the Zeh name and legacy continues with his grandson Eric Zeh, the defending Charger champion.

Don Howe has indicated that he will indeed have the Carl Zeh Auto Repair #34 Cavalier at Riverhead Raceway and Norman Pepper is also hopeful of having the restored #23 Monza machine ready for the August 15th ceremonies, Ewanitsko’s first ride was in the Ira Bromley entry at Islip. Numerous other race cars from the golden era of racing at Riverhead Raceway and on Long Island are expected for this very special evening.

Make plans now to turn back the hands of time with us at Riverhead Raceway Saturday August 15th and join us in inducting three Riverhead Raceway legends onto our Wall of Fame.
