Long Islander’s Head South For The Winter

With the 2016 racing season about to kick off, a few tracks in the south are hosting events for Speedweeks. One of those tracks is Ann Young’s Bronson Speedway who, for the first time in the five years she’s owned the track, will be hosting Tour Type Modifieds.

“Chris and I always talked about bringing the Tour Type Modifieds but, the track needed cleaning and we needed permits,” said Young.

New Smyrna Speedway normally hosts a Tour Type event starting the weekend before the action starts at Daytona Speedway. But, this year the Tour Type’s don’t race until Monday February 15th. That’s when Young called Robert Hart, the owner of New Smyrna Speedway and asked to host a modified race on Saturday the 13th.

So far six to eight cars are expected to show up, including Ron Silk driving for Dan Watts, Ryan Preece driving in the Ed Partridge No. 6, and J.R. Bertuccio. Young is expecting more drivers to show up.

The winner of the 50-lap feature will be awarded $2,000, a barrel of Sunoco Race Fuel, track sponsored tires, and a guaranteed 5th place starting spot for the Richie Evan Memorial at New Smyrna.

This special event is going to be a part of Opening Night to kick off the 2016 season at Bronson Speedway.

“My goal is to have the Tour Type Modifieds at Bronson,” Young said, “Every track in Florida runs different rules for every division with the Tour Types everything is the same and they are affordable.”
